William G. Bass
William G. (Daddy Bill) Bass, a resident of Headland, died early Friday morning, Aug. 24, 2007, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 26, 2007, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Ruth Jones and Reverend Jimmy Metcalf officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice Inc., P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mr. Bass was a lifelong resident of Headland, son of the late Fred Harvey Bass Sr. and Irma Jewell Maddox Bass. He retired from the Henry County Board of Education as maintenance supervisor. In earlier years, Mr. Bass was self-employed as a plumber and electrician. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sellers Bass; a son, Timothy Paul Bass; five brothers, Fred Bass Jr., Paul Bass, Jack Bass, Max Bass and Abe Bass.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Diane Bass Carruthers, Midland City, Marianne Bass Jones and husband, Roy Jones, Monroe, N.C.; three sons, William E. (Butch) Bass and wife, Lanetha Bass, Headland, Larry Bass, Pelham, N.C., Tommy Bass and wife, Jerrie Bass, Dothan; a daughter-in-law, Terry Bywater Bass, Daleville, Al.; three sisters-in-law, Freddie Bass, Phenix City, Mavis Bass Odom, Dothan, Lois Bass, San Antonio; 13 grandchildren, Chalice Tillis and husband, Joey Tillis, Jori Shelley and husband, Jamey Shelley, Dan Bethune and wife, Jo Bethune, Jim Bass, Kevin Bass, Matthew Bass and wife, Lindsey Bass, Michael Stokes, Hollie Faircloth and husband, Drew Faircloth, Savannah Carruthers, Paul Jones, Wyatt Jones, Brittney Bass and Will Bass; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jack Manley, Joe Ingram, Tod Tate, Ricky Allen, Wayne Bass and Matt Bass.
