WILL: William Coon's will was probated 16 Jan 1865. The will was written 23 May 1864.
In the name of God. I William Coon of the town of Salem in the County of Washington State of New York of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this life do make the following as my last will and testament:
First: I give ... unto my only son Rufus all the farm with the appurtenances I have lately purchased of and from John Coon being the old homestead farm so called Situate in the said town of Salem to have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns forever upon this proviso & condition nevertheless that he shall not dispose of the same until after he arrives at the age of twenty five (25) years without the written consent of my executors hereinafter mentioned endorsed upon the deed or conveyance. [Rufus was nineteen years old at this time.]
Second: I will order and direct that my executors see that my _ _ _ _ _ _ [wife Rebecca (Bassett) Coon?] have the equal one _ _ of her support during life out of said estate.
Third: I will bequeath and direct that my said executors set apart and pay over in equal portions share and share alike to the following named benevolent societies one hundred (100) dollars for the purpose of constituting my wife and son life members of said societies: to wit Foreign Mission Bible Society, Tract Society & Home Missions in and for the County of Washington.
Fourth: I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife during her life the pew I own & possess in Dr. Lambert's Church and after her death to my said son Rufus his heirs and assigns forever.
Fifth: I give and bequeath to my said son Rufus all my outdoor personal property such as farming utensils Cattle and live Stock subject nevertheless to a right in his mother to have whenever she desires a horse Harness and Conveyance at her use and Command.
Sixth Lastly: I devise and bequeath unto my said wife all the rest and residue of my property and Estate of every name and kind and I do further give devise and bequeath unto her her support and maintenance arising & issuing out of the property herein & hereby given and devised unto my said son and if for any reason my said wife should desire to live separate and apart from my said son I will and direct that he pay unto her the fixed sum of One Hundred Dollars in lieu of said support and maintenance yearly and every year so long as she shall live all which gifts devises and bequeaths to my said wife are to be in lieu of Dower and all other rights or claims upon my estate.
Should my said son Rufus die without issue and unmarried before the death of my said wife and without disposing of the same by Will I will and direct that all of the devises and bequests herein and hereby given him in and by this my will revert to any heirs and their heirs and assigns other than my said wife which condition I do hereby annex to said devises and bequests to my said son.
I do hereby and herein nominate and appoint my said wife executrix and my brother James S Coon the Executor of this my will.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set hand and seal this 23rd day of May 1864.

DEATH: William Coon signed as a witness to the will of James M. Cruikshank on 3 Feb 1846. When the will was proved on 29 Dec 1873, it was noted that William Coon was deceased.
