Succumbs To Sudden Attack of Heart Trouble at Residence On Roosevelt
Last night marked the passing of another of the early poineer residents of northern Colorado when Mrs. Harriet E. Bassett, in a sudden attack of heart trouble, succumbed at the age of 79 years at the family residence on North Roosevelt. Although her strength had been failing she was in apparently good health and had expreienced but few sick days during her life. At two o'clock this morning the attack came upon her which claimed her in death a few minutes later and no opportunity was afforded for a physician to exercise his skill in saving her life. The deceased was the wife of A.D. Bassett and in company with her husband came to Colorado from New York almost fifty-one years ago, when the broad expanse of prairie now under cultivation was dotted here and there with a settler's cottage. They were among those who experienced and survived the hardships of pioneer life and first took up their residence near the present site of Longmont. Later they removed to the Lone Tree district where they took up a homestead and where they resided until sixteen years ago. Since that time they have been residents of Loveland. Mrs. Bassett leaves a large number of friends to mourn her loss, having always exhibited a kindly christian spirit. She was a member of the Baptist congregation in this city. In additon to her husband, seven of the ten children born to their union survive her. They are: Mrs. Clara A. Berner, Edwin Bassett, Mrs. Stella Kelim, Kennith Bassett, and Mrs. Ella Sankey, all of Loveland and vicinity, Elmer Bassett of Parkman, Wyoming and Mrs. G.R. Ludlom of Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral arrangements will not be made pending the receipt of word from those who live at a distance and who have been wired of their mother's death.
