Hugh Bass
Rites Today For Businessman Hugh Bass
Services for Hugh Bass, a Dallas businessman who helped finance such projects as Lake Arlington and Arlington Stadium, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
Bass died in his Dallas home after a brief illness. He was 95.
A McKinney native, he graduated from McKinney High School and later graduated from college. He came to Dallas in 1917 as head of the bond department at Mercantile Bank.
In the early 1930s, he stared his own stock and bond business, Hugh Bass & Co. He retired in 1960 but remained active in the stock business.
Bass was related to one of the founders of Texas Christian University, and his mother, Lou Carr Bass, was the first woman to graduate from TCU.
In 1951, he began marketing bonds for the city of Arlington for projects such as Arlington Stadium and Lake Arlington. He was the city's financial adviser for 25 years.
Bass was a member of Northway Christian Church and the Men's Bible Class, the Brookhollow Country Club and the Dallas Athletic Club. He was also a member of the City Club and other business and civic organizations.
Memorials may be made to the American Mental Health Association or a charity of choice.
