He was born on July 9, 1939, in Massachusetts to the late Sherman and Evelyn Mackilligan Bassett. Mr. Bassett was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. He enjoyed golfing and water skiing while his health permitted. Mr. Bassett was a volunteer at the Shriner Hospital and Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health. He served as the Past Master at the Masonic Lodge in Norwood, Massachusetts and was a Shriner. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Martha Fisher Bassett; two sons, Christopher D. Bassett (Karen) and Jeffrey D. Bassett (Melissa); four grandchildren, Gaige Bassett, Riley Bassett, Sierra Bassett, and Brianna Copley (Chase); two great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Bassett and Colt Copley; also surviving is a brother-in-law, Wayne Fisher and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Fisher. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lexington Memorial Masonic Lodge #473 PO Box 1632 Lexington, NC 27293.
