James Bassett
September 9, 1925 ? December 20, 2016
James Harold Bassett was called home by our Savior on December 20, 2016. ?If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die we belong to the Lord.? Romans 14:8. Jim was born September 9, 1925 in Louisville, Mississippi to William Hance and Sarah May (Clay) Bassett and was baptized in Helena, Arkansas at the First Baptist Church in 1935.
On April 7, 1948 in George County, Mississippi, Jim married Louise Brinson. He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jim was a member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Georgetown, TX.
Jim spent his professional career as a principal at Ross and Bassett Architects and Engineers in Pasadena, TX, owner of Bassett Ford Dealership in Giddings, TX, owner and operator of a cattle ranch in Giddings, TX., and as an investment broker and developer in Carthage, Austin, and Georgetown, TX. He was involved in many things, included various church activities, coaching baseball, and membership in the Rotary Club. While Jim enjoyed golf and fishing, his passion was flying his Cessna. He served as vice-president of the U.S. Pilots? Association. He was inducted in the Blue Max Society for his contributions to aviation. Jim also served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, two brothers, and his parents. He is survived by his two sons, Randy Bassett and wife Virginia of Georgetown and Larry Bassett and wife Karen of Vermont. His grandchildren are Robyn and Mark Bray of Wylie, TX, Krista and Jason Stegemiller of Houston, TX, Amy and Joe Barth of Pickton, TX, Laurie Bassett of Cornwall, VT, Mark and Charity Bassett of Como, TX, Stephen and Audrey Bassett of El Paso, TX, Kathryn and Brian Moore of Leicester, VT , Jonathan Bassett of Cornwall, VT. His 27 loving greatgrandchildren are: Abigail and Luke Bray; James Stegemiller; Racheal, Katelyn, Abigail, Amy Joy, Hannah, Ezekiel, Stephanie, Caleb, Trevor, and Jason Barth; Joshua, Jeffrey, Charis, Travis, Troy, Marshal, Carrie, and Chloe Bassett; Keturah Bassett, Carlos Jiminez, Jorge and Alexa Moncayo; Timothy and Jessica Moore. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 9:45 am at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Georgetown. Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with military honors.
