Sidney T. Bassett
Services for Sidney T. Bassett, 90, were held Wednesday, July 29, 1992 at the First Baptist Church in Arnold at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Victor Karg officiated.
Survivors include three children, Ardis Roth and husband Charlie of Callaway, Richard Bassett and wife Luetta of Arnold, and Jeanette Andrew and husband Albert of North Platte; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Lela Ethel William Bassett, and Francis Montgomery Bassett; a daughter, who died in infancy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bassett; brothers: Frank, William, Jesse, Edwin, Nigel, Floyd, Clifford, Ira and Richard; and sisters, Lily, Pearl, Gladys and Grace; and their spouses.
Music was provided by Mrs. C.D. Quig and Debbie Bassett.
Pallbearers were: Don Roth, Chris Roth, David Bassett, Ted Bassett, Terry Hoover, and Tom Gamble.
Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Eastburn, Robert Watson, Stuart Watson, Everett Fales, Virgil Catterson, Eldridge Jacobson, Sal Gunther and Rex McKain.
Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery.
Arnold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Sidney Theodore Bassett was born on December 26, 1901 on a farm east of Arnold, Nebraska. He departed this life July 26, 1992 at the Good Samaritan Center at Callaway, Nebraska at the age of 90 years and 7 months.
Sid attended school in Pine Canyon east of Arnold and the Arnold Elementary. During his younger years he farmed with his brothers, Floyd and Ted.
On December 28, 1922 he married Lela Ethel Williams of Arnold. She passed away on March 29, 1974.
On September 1, 1976 he married Francis Montgomery of Arnold. She passed away May 23, 1983.
He worked for the Village of Arnold for nearly 40 years. During his retirement years he loved to visit with his family and friends and drive his old, brown car. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life that included hunting, fishing, trapshooting and collecting coins and stamps.
