Joseph E. Bessette, 64, was building contractor
CHICOPEE – Joseph E. Bessette, 64, of 84 Whittlesey Ave., Fairview, a retired building contractor for 30 years and president of his company, J.O.B. inc. of Chicopee, died yesterday morning in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Leeds. He retired in 1986.
Born in Holyoke, he moved to Fairview in 1950.
He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church.
He was a World War II Army veteran and saw service in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge and the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
He was a member of American Legion Post 353 of Willmansett, Chicopee Lodge of Elks and the Disabled American Veterans of South Hadley.
He was a former president of the Willimansett Credit Union and former member of the Westover Development Committee and the Chicopee Board of Appeals.
He leaves his wife, the former Olga Storozuk; two sons, Wayne J. and Joel E., both of Chicopee; two daughters, Diane F. Mettey of the Florence section of Northampton and Denise H. Lawrence of Chicopee; his mother, Rhea (Couture) Bessette of Holyoke, four brothers, George of Chicopee, Paul of Belchertown, Albert of Granby and Jerry of Hamden, Conn.; three sisters, Claire Gladu of Holyoke, Cecile Patryn of South Hadley and Priscilla Boyce of Richmond, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be tomorrow morning at Phaneiuf-Blais Fairview Funeral Chapels and in the church with burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley.
