Martin Bassett
Martin Oren Bassett, 76, of Drakesville, passed away peacefully at Aspire of Donnellson in Donnellson, on Nov. 17, 2022. He was born on his family farm near Moulton to Wray Puffer and Ona Martin Bassett on March 28, 1946.
He graduated from Davis County High School in 1965. Marty joined the US Navy in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1969. In July of 1967, he married Gail White. They were married 14 years before they divorced. On August 6, 1988, he married Stephanie Swaim in Bloomfield.
Marty was a farmer and custom applicator for Kaiser Ag in Drakesville, Farmer?s Co-op in Melrose, Farm Service in Moravia, and Roemerman?s in Blakesburg.
He enjoyed attending his grandchildren?s activities, mud racing, and visiting with neighbors. He was a member of the Drakesville United Methodist Church.
He is survived by Stephanie; son, Wade (Lisa) Bassett of Albia, Iowa and grandchildren, Miranda, Brenden, Hayley, and Danae; daughter, Jolena (Brad) Conover of Clive, Iowa and granddaughter, Brooke; son, Justin (Megan) Bassett of Drakesville, Iowa and grandchildren, Eva, Paige, Brent; great-grandson, Koen Lambright; sister, Beverly Andrews of Celina, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen Harris, Sherrell Stigler; brother, Larry Dean Bassett; and brothers-in-law, Joe Harris and James Andrews.
Marty?s wish was to be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held with Rev. Donna Olinger officiating. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. No visitation is planned. Burial will be at the Drakesville Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established to Davis County Veteran?s Affairs and may be mailed to 100 Courthouse Square, Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.
