      Joanne Bass

      Joanne Webb Bass, 89, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on July 24, 2024 after a few years of declining health.
      She was born in Edgecombe County, NC on February 23, 1935 to Wiley Webb, Sr. and Laura Harris Webb, who preceded her in death. She was the youngest of six children. Her siblings, Wiley Webb, Jr., Johnnie (Buster) Webb, Marion (Monk) Elrod, Phoebe McMullen and Harvey Webb all preceded her in death.
      In 1953 she graduated from Farmville High School, in Farmville, NC. Over the years she has worked at State Life and Health Insurance in Tarboro, NC, Durham Life Insurance, and the NC Department of Agriculture. In 1980 she began working at Pierce and Strange, CPAs, now Williams, Overman, Pierce and Company, where she retired after 25 years.
      On May 23, 1965 she married Carl Lee Bass, Jr. in her home parish, Calvary Episcopal Church, Tarboro, NC. They started their marriage together in Raleigh, NC in 1965. Those that remain to cherish her legacy are her husband of 59 years, Carl, her two sons, Lee Bass (Melissa) and Jonathan Bass (Cameron). She immensely enjoyed her eight grandchildren, Ashton (Regina), Grayson, Anna Beth, Preston, Carlee Anne, Landon, Brayden and Mason. She also had a special great grandson Levi (Ashton and Regina), whose smile lit up her face, since his birth, especially in the waning months of her life. Also remaining to cherish her legacy are nieces Kim (Tommy) Bryant and Leigh (John) Moore and nephews Johnny Webb and Dudley Webb.
      Her hobbies and interests included square dancing and round dancing, traveling in and out of state to various square dance events. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed annual family vacations to Atlantic Beach, NC. She attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Raleigh North Carolina for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry, helped coordinate many social events, was a member of the spiritual group Quest and was a coordinator for Meals on Wheels of Wake County.
      For her continued care over the last several months to a year, the family of Joanne Bass would like to thank Duke Raleigh hospital, Hillcrest Rehabilitation, Transitions Life Care and Right at Home, homecare services. The family would also like to thank special friends of over 50 years, Barbara and Kristy Dunn, who are loved like family. They provided prayers, sent words of encouragement and delivered delicious meals and snacks.
      The family would also like to thank all of her special friends from St. Mark's Episcopal Church for their prayers, love and support.
      A memorial service to honor her legacy and celebrate her life will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1725 N. New Hope Road, Raleigh, NC on August 24, 2024 at 1 pm with internment of ashes in the Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
      The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church concourse from 12 noon to 1 pm.
      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County or Transitions LifeCare.
