Karen Harris (1940-2016) (Picture included)
Karen R. Harris, 76, of Norwalk, died peacefully August 11, 2016.

Karen worked along -side her husband, Earl "Joe" Harris, at Joe's Place, one of the many businesses they had together. She worked as a secretary for the Iron Workers Local 67 and later at Lakewood Elementary School in Norwalk where she retired. She was a founding member of the Fellowship Community Church in Norwalk.
Those left to cherish Karen's memories are her daughter, Janelle (Joe) Van Pilsum of Norwalk; three grandchildren, Joe (Mindie), Ryan, and Halie; a great-granddaughter, Ava; a great-grandbaby on the way; a sister, Beverly (Jim) Andrews; a brother, Marty (Stephanie) Bassett; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Karen Harris' Life Story
Karen Rae, the second born daughter of Wray Puffer and Ona Christina (nee: Martin) Bassett, entered this world on July 2, 1940. She grew up on a family farm outside of Bloomfield, Iowa. Karen attended school in a one room school house and graduated from Moulton High School in 1958.
Karen moved to Des Moines with friends, following school, where she worked as a ten-key data entry operator. Here Karen met the love of her life, Earl ?Joe? Harris. Together they had a daughter, Janelle, and continued to live in Des Moines. They were later married and moved to a farm south of Norwalk.
Karen worked along ?side her husband at Joe?s Place, one of the many businesses they had together. She worked as a secretary for the Iron Workers Local 67 and later at Lakewood Elementary School in Norwalk where she retired. She was a founding member of the Fellowship Community Church in Norwalk. Karen loved to garden, attending to her flowers and vegetables, and using her Case lawn mower; she always enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, making the best cookies ever. Karen loved her grandchildren, taking them shopping, on vacations, and fishing in her farm pond.
On Thursday morning, August 11, 2016, Karen died peacefully, after enduring Alzheimer?s disease for several years. She lived 76 years, one month and nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe, December 3, 2014; and a sister, Sherrel Stigler.
