Requiem Mass was offered on Thursday morning, October 20 at 10:30 from the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold for Mrs. William Bassett who died on Monday evening, october 17 at a North Platte Hospital.
Fr. Stephen Deaver officiated at the services.
Pallbearers were: Charles Uehling, William Thanel Jr., Albert Hosel, Vincent Gunther, Glen Bassett and Richard Bassett.
Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery with the Quig Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Flora Thanel, daughter of John and Anna Thanel, was born on May 4, 1886 in Viener, Austria.
At the age of seven years, she came with her parents to the United States. They settled in Pine Canyon near Arnold and she attended school in Pine Canyon and at Pleasant Hill.
She was united in marriage to William C. Bassett on November 22, 1909 at Callaway, Nebr. To this union were born four children.
They resided in Pine Canyon and on Cliff Table until 1915, and at that time they purchased a farme ast of Arnold where they lived until retiring in 1946.
Mrs. Bassett was a faithful member and worker in her church. She had been a member of the St. Agnes Altar Society for 50 years and in 1965 was made Honorary Life time member.
Preceeding her in death were one daughter, Margaret Marie, her parents, a brother Rudolph Thanel and a sister, Mrs. Anna Wehling.
Surviving are her husband, William, two daughters; Wilma, Mrs. Howard Van Cleave, of Arnold, and Mable, Mrs. Frank Hahn, of Omaha and one son, Walter of North Platte; also five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and two brothers; Frank of Henderson, Nev., and William of Brady, Nebr., and one sister, Eda, Mrs. Charles Schaffer of Callaway; also many nephews and nieces, and many friends.
Mrs. Bassett enjoyed good health until 1965 when she entered the St. Mary's Hospital in North Platte for surgery and she was again hospitalized on September 23, 1966 and passed away on October 17 in North Platte
