MANSFIELD, Ohio - Jane Bassett Ross, a former resident for 27 years of Sharpsville, passed away at 6:22 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, in Mifflin Care Center in Mansfield. She was 80.
Mrs. Ross was born March 5, 1930 in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Anne Leonard Bassett.
She was an alumna of Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh.
Jane married Samuel N. Ross of Sharpsville on April 12, 1950.
Mrs. Ross was a former member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville. She resided in southern California for more than 30 years and moved to Ohio in 2008 to be closer to her children, with her faithful husband, Samuel, caring for her until her death.
Jane enjoyed walking, painting, growing houseplants and feeding birds.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Joanne Williams, Belleville, Pa.; and Leslie Ross-Degnan, Needham, Mass.; and a son, Samuel J. Ross, Lexington, Ohio.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Nora Williams, Robert Williams, Anne Williams, Ryland Degnan, Rosie Degnan, Amy Knisely, Hannah Hange, Samantha Ross and Angela Ross.
Jane was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Joseph J. Bassett of Pittsburgh.
A private memorial service for family members only will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, in the chapel of Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
