Brent Edward Bass
Bass, Brent Edward of Sylva, NC, age 55, passed away on July 8, 2024 in Asheville, NC after a courageous eight-month battle with multiple myeloma. His family and friends were with him and surrounded him in love.
Brent was born on April 12, 1969 in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Nitro High School (Nitro, WV) in 1987 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Marshall University (Huntington, WV) in 1992. Brent was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was awarded "Pledge of the Year" for his class. Brent then began a long career with Lowe's Home Improvement as a Human Resources Associate. Brent left his mark on people he met across the country in Steubenville, OH; Corning, NY; Piscataway, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; and Asheville, NC before landing in his beloved mountain town of Sylva, NC. Brent resided there for the past 16 years and dearly loved his "Fisher Creek mom and dad," Novella and Ed Greer.
Brent was a gentle, kind man and lived a simple yet intentional life. Brent loved spending time with his friends and family, hiking, bike-riding, reading, and watching baseball and soccer. He loved nature and being outdoors. Brent also loved spoiling his favorite dog, Hank, or as Brent called him, "the Hound King of Hyde Park."
Brent is survived by his mother, Brenda Harris Truman and his step-father, Robert Truman of Hendersonville, NC, his sister Jen Bass Smith (Eric) of Cincinnati, OH, his uncle Brian Harris (Jane) of Charlotte, NC and aunts Beverly Markel (Robert) of Edgewood, MD, Debbie Bush (Jerry) of Massillon, OH, Dawna Eriksen (Doug) of Delaware City, DE, and his eleven cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ray Bass.
Brent's family would like to thank the members of his medical teams at Messino Cancer Center, Mission Hospital Oncology Unit, Levine Cancer Institute, and Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center who were with Brent and family every step of the way during the last eight months.
