From the Congressional Cemetery Newsletter, January 1997, Simeon Bassett was a stone mason who worked on the Capitol reconstruction following the fire of 1814. Later he was senate doorkeeper. When Daniel Webster determined that the one page then working in the Senate needed assistance, he sought Isaac’s appointment.
