Frances Rooney
Frances G. Rooney, 89, of Denver, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Chittenden, Vt., Frances was the oldest child of nine to Dexter and Maude (Gardner) Bassett.
She was a loving wife to Daniel L. Rooney Jr. until his passing in December 2012.
Frances was a beautiful soul who was an excellent cook, known for her annual St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinners at the Post No. 50 American Legion in Castleton. She also served as past president of the Post No. 50 ladies auxiliary.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in spoiling them.
Frances was a true "Vermonter" at heart. She spent the last several years of her life living in Pennsylvania but never lost her love for all things Vermont. Her caring heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Shelley (Philip) Getz of Denver, Rick (Carol) Mallory of Columbia Falls, Mont. and Patrick (Dana) Rooney of Brookville; three grandchildren, Abby, Alice and Daniel; six step-grandchildren, Anitra, Kiley, Jenna, Karey, Ariel and Christopher; and four siblings, Betty Vennel of Arizona, Joyce DePastino of Connecticut, Shirley Pribson of Connecticut and Albert Bassett of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Frances is predeceased by four siblings, Robert Bassett, Charles Bassett, Donald Bassett and Gloria Roy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Frances Rooney to Crippen Fellows American Legion Post 50 Ladies Auxiliary, 378 Route 4A W, Castleton, VT 05735.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, located at 10 Washington Street, Fair Haven, Vt. under the care and arrangements of Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven, Vt.
Arrangements are at the direction of Good Sipler Funeral and Cremation Centre Inc. in Reamstown.
