Adric W. Bassett, 79, was ‘Hamp councilman
EASTHAMPTON – A former Northampton councilman and alderman, Aldric W. Bassett was pronounced dead on arrival at Cooley Dickinson Hospital by Medical Examiner Donald B. Rogers from a heart attack he suffered while driving on Route 9 in Goshen, police said.
Mr. Bassett, 79, of 79 Main St., was driving home from his daughter’s house in Ashfield when he suffered a heart attack and smashed into a snow bank, Goshen police said.
Mr. Bassett was also a member on the Northampton School Committee.
Born in Northampton, he lived there until his retirement from the Brookside Diary Co. in 1955. He moved here 23 years ago.
A navy veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion of Easthampton and also the World War I Barracks of Easthampton of which he was a former commander.
A communicant of Notre Dame Church, he was the husband of the late Agnes L. (O’Connor) Bassett.
He leaves a son, Roger of Amherst; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara A. Holmes of Ashfield, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday morning at the John F. O’Connell Funeral Home and in the church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Northampton.
