Death Of John Bass
Mr. John Bass, formerly of Chariton, but recently of Lucas, passed away at the hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, on Monday night, November 25, 1929, at eleven o'clock, at the age of 65 years, 1 month and 14 days. He had been in failing health for two years but was able to be about until a few days before his death. He had been in Iowa City but a week receiving treatment.
The remains were brought here on Wednesday and taken to Davis City, where funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ, followed by interment in the cemetery at that place.
John Bass was born in Davis City, Iowa, on October 11, 1864, and grew to young manhood at that place. He was married to Mrs. Etta Stevenson, of Lucas, who died several years later. They were the parents of three children, two of whom died in infancy, and a son, James, died a few years ago from injuries received in a mine at Pershing, when his back was broken by a fall of slate.
On September, 15, 1911, he was married to Mrs. Annie Ruark, who survives him. Two daughters were born to them, Jennie and Mabel, both of whom are living. He is also survived by one brother, Will Bass, of Lucas, and three sisters, Mrs. Violet Smith and Mrs. Ann Turpin, of Davis City and Mrs. May Jordon, of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Bass was an honest, upright citizen and had a large circle of friends who will learn of his demise with deep regret and will extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
