      Anna Jantina (Jackie) Bassett

Anna Jantina (Jackie) Bassett OCEANSIDE -- Anna Jantina Bassett (Jackie) lost her battle with cancer on February 12, 2012. She was born in Amsterdam, Holland on May 30, 1938 to John and Elisabeth Blom. Jackie is survived by her loving husband. Ashley E. Bassett, aka "Little John." Jackie and John were married on August 8, 1988 after the both of them lost their spouses the year before, and were a great comfort to each other in their time of need. They were like teenagers again, traveling the world together with stops in Christ Church, New Zealand, Kaneohe, Hawaii, a trip back to Amsterdam, Holland, England, France, Japan, on some MAC flights, which is an adventure in itself. They got stuck in Alaska on their way home, once or twice. They went to Vermont to visit Little John's home state and of course to Montana to visit Jackie's three children, Diane Snedigar, Betty Potter, and Jerry Swart. Jackie is also survived by her step-daughters, Leilan Bassett, and Heather Abaroa Bassett; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jackie was very involved with different Orchid Societies, and the Gem and Mineral Societies. She was one of the Founders of CSUSM, danced in the Rose Parade, spent many nights Line Dancing, and also won awards for their "Bassett Orchids" at the Del Mar Fair for 13 years. Jackie enjoyed many trips to the Winning Circle at Del Mar Race Track with friends who had ponies. She loved their weekend trips to Palm Springs to the street fairs. She was involved with making over 50 afghans for "Wounded Warriors" at Camp Pendleton. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 20, at King of King's Lutheran Church, 2993 McDonald St., Oceanside, CA. Reception to follow. Donations may be made in her name to Scripps Stevens Cancer Center, PO Box 2669, La Jolla, CA. 92038, or California State University San Marcos Advancement, Attn: Arlene Crapsa, 333 South Twin Oaks Valley Rd., San Marcos, CA. 92096-0001.
