The Bassett Inquest
Chicago, Illinois - June 9 - During the inquest on the body of Nathaniel Bassett, held at the county hospital today, the young widow surprised the jury by stating that her husband was the son of Senator Bassett of Peoria. The jury came to the conclusion that Bassett met his death by taking strychnine while mentally unsound.
Last Sunday afternoon Bassett was found on the lake shore suffering from poison. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. Mrs. Bassett says her husband has been in the employ of the Rock Island road thirteen years. Several months ago he met with an accident which affected his mind and inflicted a permanent injury.
