James Fred Bass
Mr. James Fred Bass, 57, of Key Largo, Fla., and formerly of Frederick, died Friday, March 10, due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Bass; two sons, James Bass Jr. and wife Cheryl, and Scott Bass; a daughter, Sherri Grubbs and husband John; and grandchildren Brittany and Mariah Bass, and J.C., Austin and Tiffani Grubbs, all of Frederick.
He served in the U.S. Navy and since then owned an avionics repair shop, working primarily at Montgomery Airpark, Frederick Municipal Airport, and Tamiami and Marathon Airport in Florida.
He was an avid scuba diver and certified instructor. He was an airplane pilot and instructor and maintained a captain's license. His hobbies included scuba diving, boating, jet skis, kayaks, along with weightlifting, bike riding and watching sunsets on the water.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, with the Rev. Richard Stetler, a family friend, officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. There will be a private inurnment in Key Largo.
