ESSEX JUNCTION - June Bassett Jacob, 80, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, in the Green Mountain Nursing Home. June was born on June 11, 1929, in Newport, Vt. to Arthur and Ella (Farrow) Bassett. She grew up in Canaan, Vt., graduated from Becker Junior College, Massachusetts, and worked her first jobs as a medical secretary in Burlington, Vt. In 1951, she met and married Joseph C. Jacob of South Burlington and they moved to Essex Junction the following year. They had been married 40 years when he passed away in 1992. As a homemaker, over the years she was active in a variety of organizations including many bridge groups, the Essex Home Dem, the Essex Women's Club, the Women's Group of St. James Episcopal Church, a local Camper's Club, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She volunteered at various times during her life at the Green Mountain Nursing Home, American Red Cross, and Fanny Allen Hospital. In addition, she traveled with her husband to many fire department activities throughout the state. June is survived by her mother Ella Bassett; her brother James Bassett and his wife Shirley of Derby, Vt.; her children, Janice Rheaume and her husband Ernest of Essex Junction, James C. Jacob and his wife Patty of Jeffersonville, John Jacob and his wife Geri Ann Higgins of Essex, and Joyce Girard and her friend Todd Hall of Essex Junction. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Joseph Rheaume and his wife Joanne, Adam Rheaume, Corey Girard, Kyle Girard, Sean Jacob, and Allyson Jacob. The family would like to thank the staff of the Green Mountain Nursing Home for their care over the last few years. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. in St. James Episcopal Church, Essex Junction. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. The family will receive friends at a reception in Saint James Church following the service. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Essex Rescue, Inc., 1 Educational Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452. James Charles Jacob
JAMES CHARLES JACOB - JEFFERSONVILLE - James Charles Jacob, 59, of Jeffersonville, died on his half-birthday, Sept. 19, 2013, at home. He had a view of Mt. Mansfield and was surrounded by his loving family. Jake was born in Burlington to Joseph Charles Jacob and June (Bassett) Jacob. He lived most of his life in Essex Junction and was a 1972 graduate of Essex Junction High School. In high school he ran cross-country to get in shape for his favorite sport, hockey. He was a charter member of the EJHS hockey team under Coach Brian Nelligan, a lifelong friend. Jake served on the Essex Junction Fire Department where his father was Fire Chief. After he was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident, he continued to serve the fire department in communications for several years. After retiring from IBM, where he worked as a technician, Jake turned his attention to his true passions: the U.S. Constitution and the Second Amendment. He was a Conservative Constitutionalist and loved to discuss politics with anyone who would listen. He was a member of the Burlington Rifle and Pistol Club and the Green Mountain Boys Shooting Club, where he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge. Despite living 41 years in a wheelchair, Jake lived life with gusto and on his own terms. He was privileged to shoot and compete with some of the nation's best on the Ethan Allen Firing Range. He owned a speed boat, ATV, camper, vintage motorcycles and numerous vehicles. He traveled with friends and family throughout the USA. Jake is survived by his wife, Patricia Jacob of Jeffersonville; her two sisters, Andrea Shown and MaryBeth Girard of Marlboro, Mass.; his sister, Janice and husband, Ernest Rheaume, of Essex Junction; his brother, John Jacob and wife, Geri-Ann Higgins, of Essex Town; and his sister, Joyce Girard and partner, Todd Hall, of Essex Junction. The next generation is represented by Joseph and Joanne (LaLime) Rheaume, Adam Rheaume, Jeffrey and Donna (Geraneo) Shown and their baby daughter, Olivia Grace Shown, Alexander Shown, Corey Girard, Kyle Girard, Sean Jacob and Allyson Jacob. A reception in Jake's honor will be held Friday evening, Oct. 11, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the St. James Episcopal Church parish hall, 4 St. James Place, Essex Junction. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at high noon, at the Elmore United Methodist Church on Route 12 in downtown Lake Elmore. Jake received outstanding care over the years at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and from the Lamoille Home Health Agency. Memorial contributions to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Ave., Morrisville, VT 05661, would be welcomed.
