MORGAN, Vt. - Ella E. (Farrow) Bassett, 106, of Morgan, and formerly of Canaan, Vt., died Aug. 28, 2009, in the Newport Healthcare Center in Newport, Vt.
She was born Dec. 4, 1902, in West Norwood, Surrey, England, the youngest daughter of Arthur and Harriet (Lucas) Farrow.
She moved with her family from England to Stanstead, Quebec, in 1906, where she was raised with her 14 brothers and sisters. In 1925, she began working for the New England Telephone & Telegraph and in 1926 she married Arthur W. Bassett in Stanstead and later moved to Newport, where she began raising her family.
She resided in Canaan until 2008 and held the Boston Post Cane for the town of Canaan for many years until her move to Newport. She was also a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, a past-member of the St. Paul's Guild, a member of the Pythian Sisters, a 73-year member of the Eureka Chapter 2, Order of the Eastern Star of Colebrook, N.H., a 70-year member of the Federated Women's Club, and a charter member of the Canaan Historical Society.
Family members include her son, Jim Bassett of Derby, Vt.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter, June Jacob, on Aug. 24, 2009.

SERVICES: Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook. The funeral is Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul Episcopal Church, Canaan, with the Rev. Robert Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Colebrook Village Cemetery.
