Kenneth Bassett Veteran West Rockport Firefighter
Kenneth Bassett, 93, formerly of Union and a longtime resident of West Rockport, died Sunday at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a brief illness. He was born in Troy, N.Y. Mr. Bassett was the oldest living member of the West Rockport Fire Department and a member of the West Rockport Grange. He lived in West Rockport for most of his life with his wife, Lillian Dodge Bassett, who died on March 28, 1993. Mr. Bassett spent his last years living with his granddaughter, Jeanine Griffin in Union, until he moved to the Riverside Rest Home. Surviving are his son, Howard of Fort Myers, Fla.; four stepsons, Harold Dodge of Warren, and Ronald, Leroy and Charlie Dodge, both of West Rockport; a stepdaughter, Virginia Scott of South Thomaston; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Requiem Eucharist and Burial Office will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Episcolap Church, White Street, Rockland. The Rev. Ralph Moore will officiate. Burial will be later. Arrangements are by Laite & Pratt Funeral Home, Camden.
