Feet and Hands Frozen While ?Beating? Way on a Freight
Nelson Bassett, and Ogdensburg Lad Who Ran Away from Father Baker?s
School at Buffalo, Arrives in Watertown
Yesterday morning Chief of Police Baxter?s attention was called to the fact that a 14-year-old boy had come into the railroad yards on a freight car and was nearly frozen. The boy was found to be Nelson Bassett, whose parents live at 64 Lake street, Ogdensburg. Bassett was sent to the school of Rev. Father Baker, Buffalo, N.Y., some time ago, but recently ran away, working his way from Buffalo to Watertown on ?freights.? Bassett?s feet were badly swollen and his hands were frost-bitten. Chief Baxter sent work to the authorities of the school that he would hold Bassett until they sent for him.
