Mr. Dwayne Bass, 65, of Dunn, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Mr. Bass was born in Sampson County on February 12, 1956 to the late Merless and Allene Strickland Bass. Mr. Bass was a Midway High School graduate. He became a long haul truck driver, driving for M.L. Jones Trucking Co. for many years before owning and operating his own truck. It was a job he truly loved and helped satisfy his love of traveling and seeing different places. Mr. Bass believed in working hard and playing hard. He was known for his strong work ethic and love for learning something new. Mr. Bass had a great intelligence and sense of humor, had a knack for numbers, loved a good time, playing pool, and fishing. He enjoyed being the life of the party, and was a self proclaimed grill master. In his down time, he loved to watch westerns. He and his wife Melanie loved to raise and train dogs over the years. His greatest love was his family. He was always ready to help his family, family came first. Funeral services for Mr. Bass will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Dunn. Mr. Bass is survived by his wife of 36 years, Melanie Bass, son, Dwayne Allen Bass; daughter, Samantha Bass; brother, Ray Alton Bass, and Larry Douglas Bass; sisters, Debbie Lynn Frye, and Carolyn Ann Bass; granddaughter, Jazzlyn Marie Bass Renaud. Visitation will be held 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.
