Charlie Houston Bass
Mr. Charlie Houston Bass, of 5477 Wildcat Road, Harrells, NC. died Saturday at his home.
Mr. Bass, a native of Sampson County, was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Bass. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Charlie Houston Bass III, a sister, Danzel Warwick, and three brothers, Prentice Pope, Dewey Bass and Jack Bass. He wa a member of the 82nd Airborne during World War II, a former owner and operator of a Sunoco on Cary Street and Broad Street in Richmond and was a contractor for Brown's Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Bessie Walls Bass of the home, eight children, Charlie H. Bass, Jr. of Urbanna, VA; Sally Bass Phillips of Richmond, VA; Bessie Bass Roberts of Iva, SC; Nannie Virginia Haselback of Harrells, NC; Judy Bass Mills and husband Charlie of Ashland, VA; Susan Margaret Bass Smith and husband Arnold of Garland, NC; Mary Bass Horne and husband Sammy of Garland, NC; Nita Gay Bass of New Bern, NC; 12 grandchildren, Charlotte, Carolina, Sarah and Stevie Bass, Sharon Gray and Joseph Gray III, Gwen and George Hasselback, Ashley and Lillian Mills, Michael Scott Albertson and wife Jennifer, Hannah Louise Horne, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Susan Wall and Mildred Merritt both of Clinton, a brother, Wade Bass of Richmond.
The family recieved friends Sunday evening, June 29, 2008 from 7-9pm at the Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
The funeral services were held at 4pm, Monday June 30, 2008 at the Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. David Pearce and Mr. Wade Horne officiating.
Burial was made in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Clinton, NC.

HARRELLS - Charlie Houston Bass Sr., of 5477 Wildcat Road, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in his home.
Mr. Bass was a member of the 82nd Airborne during World War II.
Services: Funeral, 4 p.m. Monday in Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation, 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home; and other times at the home.
Survived by: Wife, Lillian; children, Sally Phillips, Bessie Roberts, Nannie Hasselback, Judy Mills, Susan Smith, Mary Horne, Nita and Charlie Jr.; sisters, Susan Walls and Mildred Merritt; brother, Wade; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
