      Harry Glaston Bass

      CLINTON ? Mr. Harry Glaston Bass, 84, of 603 Allen St., died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7,at Grove Park Baptist Church, 609 Northeast Blvd., Clinton, with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Immediately following services the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.

      Mr. Bass was born Aug. 24, 1927, in the Herring School community of Sampson County. His parents were the late Ammie and Annie Belle Herring Bass. Mr. Bass was retired after a sales career with R.W. Moore Equipment Co. of Raleigh. He sold John Deere logging, construction and land-clearing equipment and was the salesman for the company's eastern district, based in New Bern.

      He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church, where he served on the board of deacons and had been chairman of the church's Building and Grounds Committee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.

      Mr. Bass is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Lee Bass of the home; a daughter, Sharry Fowler of Morristown, Tenn.; two sons, Tim Bass of Wilmington and Dane Bass of Sevierville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mabel Halterman of Wilmington, Elizabeth Estes of Dallas, Texas, Helen Vann of Clinton, and Hortense Eldridge of Dunn; and a brother, Norman Bass of Rocky Mount. He was preceded in death by a son, Nicky Lee Bass, who died in 2010.
