Mildred Jean Bassett Paul 1921-2010 Our sweet Mother passed away at home on December 8, 2010, with loved ones by her side. Mom was born on August 3, 1921. to Ralph Goss Bassett and Phyllis Brown Bassett. She was their only child and the light of their world. Raised in Salt Lake City and attending West High School. After graduation Mom worked in the office of the high school where she met a very cute boy (named Jack). She sent him on many errands delivering messages. He in return sent her on a chase for his heart. They were always together and after three years of courtship they married on August 7, 1942 just one month before Jack ws sent off to World War II. She waited patiently and faithfully for his return. They bought a home in Sugarhouse and waited 10 long years for the birth of their first son, Jeff. Two years later they were blessed with a second son, Mark. They then waited six more years for their third son, Jerry. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple as an eternal family. Mom enjoyed 65 years of marriage with Jack making memories that will last with their sons. Mom enjoyed baking bread and cookies to share with family and friends. She loved watching Jack play horseshoes and enjoyed playing card games, traveling, camping, bowling and gardening. She planted a vegetable and flower garden every year, being very fond of her roses. Mom was a member of DUP, bowling leagues, and Pinochle clubs, where she made many friends. After many more years of waiting for her family to be extended she was blessed with the births of her five precious granddaughters: Jodi, Carlie, Mindy, Courtney and Sarah. She always showed her love by giving gifts at each holiday and birthday. Mom lost Dad on September 11, 2007. Though she had many illnesses and a broken heart she always was proud and had dignity and grace. Survived by her three sons: Jeffrey Scott (Madelene), Mark Allen, and Jerry Bassett (Maggie), brothers-in-law: Dean (Gladys) Paul, Jay (Peggy) Paul, sister-in-law Pauline (Keith) Thomas; granddaughters: Jodi (Steven), Carlie, Mindy, Courtney and Sarah. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother-in-law Ken Paul and sister-in-law Carol Paul. We would like to thank the nurses who came daily to care for Mom: Brooke, Leslie, Colette, Alyssa, and Ashley of Harmony Home Health. Per Mildred's request a graveside service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010, at 12 Noon at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Dr. A viewing will be held Sunday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South. Online condolences: www.larkincares.com.
