Bass, 67, well-known resident of this city, died at his home on East Broad Street Thursday morning. He had been in declining health for some time, but pneumonia was the immediate cause of his death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church, near Dunn. The Reverend C.A. Jakcson and the Reverend J.L. Davis will conduct the services and burial will be in the Bass Cemetery in Sampson County. For many years, Bass was active in the affairs of Sampson County and was well-known throughout this section. He moved to Dunn about a year ago. A native of Sampson County, he was the son of the late Edien and Mary Bass. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Suriving are his widow, Mrs. Melissa Jane Bass; one daughter, Miss Flossie Bass of Dunn; seven sons, Charles, Braston and Henderson Bass of Dunn, William L. Bass of Dallas, Texas, J.M. Bass of Goldsboro and Julius and Clemon Bass of New York City, and one half-brother, T. Baggett of Clinton.
