Sam Bass

Sam Bass, a life long resident of Wetumpka, AL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was 99 years old.
Sam was President of the Kiwanis for 2 years, he also served on the City Council of Wetumpka. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 50 for 11 years from 1961 until 1972 where he produced 11 Eagle Scouts in Wetumpka. He served in the Navy for 5 years. Sam worked with Southern Natural Gas for 37 years and retired as District Superintendent. He was a life long member of 1st United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children, Gene (Nancy) Bass and Mary Anna Carr; grandchildren, Alicia (Tim) Hull, Brad (Heather) Bass, Carrie (Chad) Strickland, Heather Carr, Joseph (Lindsay) Bass, Alexis (Taylor) Noon and a host of great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Chester and Edna Gantt Bass; son-in-law, Ed Carr.
In August of 2016 Mayor Jerry Willis along with the Wetumpka City Council honored Sam by naming the Boy Scout Hut, the "Samuel Chester Bass Boy Scout Lodge".
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11:00 am at Wetumpka City Cemetery with Mayor Jerry Willis officiating. Serving as pall bearers will be Troop 50 Scouts. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Green, Roy Traywick and Roger Bush. Everyone will meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BSA Troop 50 c/o Gardner Perdue, 315 Doe Lane, Wetumpka, Alabama 36093.
