Linwood Bass
Ret. Sgt. Maj. Linwood Bass, 69, departed this life on Sept. 11, 2011, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton, the Rev. James Graham officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.
He was born Sept. 21, 1941, the son of the late Hilton Bass and Mary Ann Ivey Bass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Brigitte D. Bass; four children, Richard J. Bass of Hope Mills, Karen M. Oatman and husband Lewis of Hope Mills, Diane L. Arnette and husband Tim of Lumberton, and John L. Bass and fiancée Karen Plumley of Chesapeake, Va.; his sisters, Carolyn Rogers and husband Leo of Wilmington, and Molly Faye Foster and husband Marvin of Fairmont; 10 grandchildren, Christina, Chad, Jonathan and Stephanie Oatman, Joni Britt and husband Jeremy, Danielle Arnette and fiancé Brandon Byrd, Ashley Arnette, Brandon Bass and wife Tawni, Gary Bass, and Kelli Halm and husband Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Craig and Bralynne Arnette and Luke and Josiah Britt; several nieces and nephews, along with numerous family members and friends.
The family said: "We are all proud of his service to country and his dedication to family. He is dearly loved by all and will be truly missed."
The family will receive family and friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc., 809 E. Fifth St., in Lumberton.
