Local U.S. Marine Given Promotion
Private First Class John Coelman Bass, of the United States marines, son of Albert F. Bass, 205 Plum street, is now stationed at the marine barrackes, Puget sound navy yard, Bremerton, Washl, according to information received at the local marine corps recruiting station in the Monroe post-office building.
Bass enlisted in the corps last July and was promoted to private first class June 16, 1941. He received initial training at San Diego, Calif., where he qualified as a marksman with the service rifle, attaining a score of 200 points out of a possible 250. His chief duty at Bremerton is the protection of government property in the navy yard there.
During his spare time and over weekends, Private First Class Bass visits Seattle and other nearby palces of interest. While stationed at Ssn Diego, Bass visited Tijuana, Mexico and Coronado, Los Angeles, as well as Hollywood, Calif.
