Lorene Bass
Lorene "Renie" Bass, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2006, in Gallup.
She was born on April 8, 1919, in Ralston, Okla., to George Barnett and Berlie McDaniel Barnett.
Mrs. Bass lived in Cushing for most of her youth. In 1933, she traveled with the "Alamo" Show, where she met her husband of 57 years, John H. "Bill" Bass. They married on July 27, 1936, in Casper, Wyo., and moved to New Mexico in the early 1940s. They established a business on Route 66 in 1947 and opened the Thunderbird Bar near Thoreau on July 4, 1964. She devoted her life to supporting her husband, raising her children, helping raise her grandchildren and enjoying her great-grandbabies. Her happiest thoughts and memories were always of the little ones.
Mrs. Bass is survived by her son Harold "Bob" R. Bass of Farmington; her daughter Gay Garoutte and husband Aaron of Thoreau; her five grandchildren John Bass and wife Robin of Glendale, Ariz., Angela Marcos and husband Marcos of Las Cruces, Jori Butler and husband Jess of Thoreau, Jared Garoutte and wife Dawnette of Las Cruces and Robert Bass of Farmington; her seven great-grandchildren Denise Arvizo, Mariah Arvizo, Lennore' Butler, Dillon Butler, Manda Jean Butler, Nicole Garouette and Huston Garouette; her sisters Eunice Michalski of St. Joseph, Mo., Dorothy Broderson of Monterey Park, Calif., and Darlene Presley of Tulsa, Okla.; her brothers Jimmy Barnett of Cushing, Okla., and Bobby Barnett of Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her father George Barnett; her mother Berlie McDaniel Barnett; her daughter Janet Darlene Barnett; her husband John H. "Bill" Bass; her sisters Gladys Barnett, Marie "Sunny" Handing, Mabel Stringer, Nola Houtz and Ruth "Goldie" Taviana; and her brothers George Barnett, Jesse Barnett and Doyle Barnett.
Her final wishes were that there would be no services. She will be cremated and her remains will join her husband's on family property.
