Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles E. Sr. and Phoebe M. DeHart Bass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie Bass, in 1994. He was employed by Columbia Vending for 26 years, retiring in 1989. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple. He was a member of American Legion Post 612 of St. Thomas, Pa.; and AARP. He is survived by two sons, Lynn A. Bass and Gerald E. Bass, both of Hagerstown; a sister, Phoebe Margaret Reeder of Chambersburg; two brothers, Charles E. Bass Jr. of Dauphin, Pa., and William D. Bass of Chambersburg; a grandson; and five nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
