Bass
Lamon Bass, 70, died Monday, September 21, 1998, at the Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Bass was born in Robeson County, N.C. He was a graduate of the Shuford Barbering School in Richmond. Mr. Bass was a retired barber and farmer. In his retirement, he worked part time for Winn Dixie. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of VFW Post #8163. Lamon was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Baker and Rev. Malvin Tuck officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Hilda Lennon Bass; daughters, Beverly Bass Hendrick of South Hill, Karen Bass Compton of Oxford, N.C.; son Lamon Christopher Bass of Tifton, Cg.; brothers Wilton Bass of Nelson, Blease Bass of Winson Salem, N.C.; sisters, Ophelia Bass Wilkerson of Goldsboro, N.C., Bernice Bass Jackson of Bladenboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael Hendrick Megan Hendrick Melissa Pearce, Scott Compton, Ron Compton; two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Flowers are acceptable or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mildred Jolly, 104 Dan Cir., Clarksville, Va. 23927 or to the Mecklenburg County Lifesaving and Rescue Squad.
