Thomas Blair Bass
Thomas Blair Bass, 80, died Jan. 6, 1984, at 12:35 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Dow of Box 96, Mechanicville, NY, of a heart attack after a year of illness.
He was formerly of Tyrone, from 1949 to 1980, moving to New York with his daughter after the death of his wife in 1979.
He was born June 7, 1903, in Johnstown, Pa., the son of Luther Lee and Betty (Lewis) Kennerly Bass. He married Janeta Putnam at Johnstown on Aug. 29, 1937.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. William (Cheri Lynne) Dow of Mechanicville, NY, and three grandchildren, Pfc. David Dow of Fort Lewis, Washington, and Thomas Wade and Christine Louise Dow, both of Mechancville, NY. All brothers and sisters are deceased.
He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church (Christ U.M. Church) at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Ave. while a resident of Tyrone, where he was very active. He was an active member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church of Clifton Park, NY. He was also an active member of the Mechanicville and Clifton Park, NY, Senior Citizen?s Organizations. He organized and was an active member of his church?s Caring Committee, a group that called elderly persons daily to check on their welfare.
He was owner/partner of Bass Radiator Service for over 30 years in Tyrone, retiring at the age of 76. He officially closed his business doors the day his wife passed away.
There will be on funeral service. Mr. Bass donated his body to the Albany Medical College, Albany, NY. A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Jonesville, NY, United Methodist Church on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Donations may be made in his honor to the air condition system fund of the Jonesville U.M. Church, NY.
