      Allan Critchlow Bassett
      CANOGA PARK - Allan C. Bassett, age 80, of Canoga Park. CA, former Utah resident, passed away Thursday, July 24, 1997 in Encino, CA.
      He was born February 14, 1917 in Lago, Idaho, son of Ross C. and Inez Critchlow Bassett. During Allan's early days in Utah he was a member of CCC's at Zions, working as a stone finisher. One of his lasting efforts was that he helped survey the runways and taxiways at Hill Air Force Base. Allan and his brother Clyde often worked at the Browning's gun shop, test firing prototype guns. He also worked at the Browning Chevrolet dealership. He was a past Weber County Tax Assessor. He had retired as General Adjuster, Manager for General Adjustment Bureau after 32 years of service. Allan was a World War II veteran. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and reached the rank of Major. He served in the Alaska campaign and was pilot instructor for the Free French and the "442" Gr, Tuskegee Airman. He was attached to the 509th Composite Group of the 20th Air Force.
      He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean, and son, James (Sylvia) Bassett of Canoga Park, CA, as well as three grandchildren, Shea and Brent Bassett of Simi Valley, CA and Melesia Jiminez of Canoga Park, CA. He is also survived by a sister, Athleen Bassett of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Clyde G. Bassett of Escondido, CA.
      Alan was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and son to all those who knew him and he will be missed by all. Rest in Peace DAD.
      Graveside services will be held Sat., August 2, 11 a.m. at Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd., Ogden, UT. Friends may call at Leavitt's Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT on Friday, Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral directors, Leavitt's Chapel of Flowers Mortuary. Military honors will be accorded at graveside.
