Utha Faye Fritz, Checotah resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in McAlester, OK at the age of 97. She was born on Wednesday, August 10, 1921 to Jesse M. and Audrey B. (Boatmun) Brown in Eufaula, OK. She grew up in Eufaula where she attended school graduating as High School Salutatorian. Utha lived in Checotah for over 23 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Checotah. She was a wonderful provider for her family, very giving, and loved them all. She especially loved providing coats and school supplies to the children of her community. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary and the Counselor for the Degree of Honor Protective Association and VP of Degree of Honor. Utha was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Dorothy Elaine Bass; her sons, William Paul Bass and James D. Bass; her sisters, Della Kirby, Mary J. Owens, Willie Mae Jones; and her brother, Dyton Brown. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Mary L. Duvall of Dallas, TX; her sons, Kenneth L. Bass and his wife Sybil of Eufaula, OK, John C. Bass and his wife Sharon of Henryetta, OK, Edward T. Bass and his wife Peggy of Checotah, and Christopher M. Fritz of Checotah; 9 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
