Mary L. Bass
On Monday morning last Mary L. Bass, youngest daughter of Mr. G.M.T. Bass, of Petersburg, was sitting at a table upon which was burning a gasoline lamp, the morning being dark in consequence of the fog, when by some accident the lamp was precipitated into her lap. In an instant the burning fluid ignited her clothing, and the flames enveloped her person. Her mother came immediately to her succor, and succeeded in extinguishing the flames, but not until the little creature was burned from her knees to her head in a manger that denoted the impossibility of recovery. In the effort to smother the flames, Mrs. Bass was also burned severely.
