Joseph W. Bass Sr., 81, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Newark/Bear Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 13, 2018. Joe was employed by the Texaco/Chevron refinery as a unit supervisor in Delaware City, Delaware, for 34 years. He also served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean War. Joe and his wife, Jennifer, retired to Myrtle Beach in 1994. During his retirement he enjoyed being outside, working on his lawn, and restoring old cars in his garage. Joe and his wife enjoyed their travel time, especially their trip to Paris, France. He was a devoted husband and father, his family time was very important to him. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Bass of 61 years; two sons, Joseph Bass Jr. (Cathy), and Allen Greg Bass (Debbie), and his grandson, Robbie Joe Bass all of Middletown, Delaware; two step grandchildren, Kristie Watunya of Wilmington, Delaware, and Steven Singleton of Bear, Delaware. He was preceded in death by his parents Boyd E. and Zenna Ruth Bass of West Grove, Pennsylvania; his two sisters, Virginia Linton of Newark, Delaware, and Dolly May of Oxford, Pennsylvania, and his one brother, Boyd E. Bass Jr. of Newark, Delaware. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21st at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 North Broad Street, Middletown, Delaware. Viewing will be from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. Service will begin at 9 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.
