David George Bassett
David George Bassett Peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke, George passed away at the age of 84. He was the deeply loved husband of Norma (Logan), his wife of 53 years, and father to Carolyn Bassett (Andrew Goodman), with a large extended family. He was born in Brantford, Ontario on March 22, 1932 and lived on a farm in Rockton, Ontario during his childhood. At 18, he joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce (later the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) where he worked faithfully for 40 years and mentored many young bankers, retiring on May 1, 1990. He was an avid gardener, growing shrubs, trees, flowers and vegetables. He was a very kind and friendly gentleman whose nightly walks around the neighbourhood won him many two and four-legged friends. There will be a Memorial service at Royal York Road United Church, 851 Royal York Road in Toronto, on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., with a visitation just prior at 12:30 p.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice, which took such good care of George, by phone at 416-626-0116 or online at www.dlhospice.org, or to a charity of your choice.
