He died Saturday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. The Reverend Russell M. Pierce officiated and burial was in the Gettysburg Cemetery under the direction of the Langslet Funeral Home. Mr. Bassett was born January 19, 1908, at Cottonwood, and moved to Gettysburg in 1912. He married Evelynne Hilton at Pollock, December 25, 1933. Survivors include his widow; one son, Burton, Ringwood, New Jersey; his mother, Mrs. Frances Bassett, Gettysburg; one brother, Vernus Bassett, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Grace) Polich and Mrs. Worth (Violet) Stocker, both of Gettysburg and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson. He was a member of the Gettysburg Fire Department for 30 years and served in World War II.
