Death’s Sudden Call, Death of Mr. Bassett
Edward J. Bassett, aged 32 years, a well known resident of Ward One, died at 6 o’clock this morning at his parents’ home at the corner of Adams and Market streets. Deceased was probably known in every section of the city, and was a very smart young man. He was educated in the public schools of the city, and entered Ottawa University, where he displayed great proficiency in his study of the classics. He was an accomplished musician and was a pleasing entertainer when in company. He was a candidate for the council in the late caucus in Ward one and though defeated still he received a very flattering vote.
He was the son of James and Hannah Bassett, and a brother to Mr. Patrick Bassett. He had scores of friends who will be grieved to learn of his death, which was due to general debility.
