Anita Joy Bass Mitterer
MITTERER, Anita Joy Bass, 90, of Moseley, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday February 16, 2024. She was born July 12, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Bertell Bass and Mary Elizabeth Bailey Bass; brother, David Eugene Bass; sister, Betty Fisher Bass Goode; and husband of 60 years, Walter Clyde Mitterer, who passed November 13, 2011. She is survived by four sons, Steven Walter, Stanley Clyde, Mark Wray (Johnna) and Joseph Lee (Michelle); seven grandchildren, Ashley, Adam, Alicen, Emily, Justin, Hayley and Kayla; twelve greatgrandchildren, Ryland, Ryder, Ryeann, Maverick, Brielle, Lena, Dylan, Rowen, Alaina, Odie, Caden and Levi, due in April.
She is also survived by her foster brother, Ronnie Neisz (Debbie); and foster sisters, Marie Leslie and Loretta Tadlock. She was a longtime member of Skinquarter Baptist Church, where she served on the fellowship hall construction committee and Skinquarter Church cemetery committee along with her husband and other members. Joy was a member of the Manchester High School graduating class of 1951.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Manchester Chapter #53. She retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Central office in 1995, as an Executive Secretary for the Financial Planning Division. The family will receive friends at Bliley's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., on Friday February 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Skinquarter Baptist Church, 6900 Moseley Road, Moseley, Va. 23120 on Saturday, February 24. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m., with funeral services to be held at 12 p.m.. Interment and graveside service to follow at the Church Cemetery.
Pastor Rev. Larry Davis will be officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made, in Joy's memory to the Skinquarter Baptist Church cemetery fund, Attn: Cemetery Fund Treasurer. (See church address above).
