Clara Mae McVay Bass (Picture included)

Clara McVay Bass age 93, of Florala passed away January 23, 2018. She was born in Paxton on April 3, 1924 to Wesley J McVay and Clara Wright McVay. Clara was a lifelong member of the First Assembly of God Church in Florala serving as Choir Director, Sunday School Secretary and Vacation Bible School Coordinator. She was a dedicated community leader. Clara spent countless hours volunteering her time to her community through Eastern Star, 2002-2014 serving the Florala Housing Authority, serving as their chairperson from 2008-2014 and being Florala's Judge Magistrate until ill health forced her retirement. Clara's biggest legacy, however was the immeasurable mark she left on her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Known to them as Clara, Mom, and Granny, she will forever hold a dear and precious place in each of their hearts. She was preceded in death by father, Wesley J McVay; mother, Clara Wright McVay; brothers, W.J. McVay Jr, Floyd McVay and Ace McVay sisters, Mildred Barton; Marie Boykin; Winona Rentz.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, H.O. Bass Jr of Florala, daughter, Ree Strickland and husband Billy, sons, Clyde Bass and wife Dolores and John Bass Sr, grandchildren Tracy, Todd, Beth, Jessica and John Bass Jr, great grandchildren, Finngan, Ryder, Emmy, Clover, John and Ellie, sisters, Juanita Johnson and Emma Jean Shaw. She is also survived by an abundance of extended love ones including numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Clara Mae McVay Bass will be 11AM Saturday January 27, 2018 from the First Assembly of God Church in Florala with Reverend Ray Bundy, Tommy Kelly and Mike McVay officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8PM at Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
