Harvey O. Bass Jr, of Florala, AL passed away at North Okaloosa Medical Center surrounded by his family on January 4, 2020. He was 98 years old. Harvey was born April 6, 1921 to the late Harvey O. Bass Sr and Hattie Elizabeth Bolding Bass. He was a Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to many. Harvey was saved in 1951. In 1952 he became a member of the First Assembly Of God Church in Florala. He was elected as a board member which position he still held up to present day, (1952 - 2020).
He served as Secretary - Treasure in 1952 for 8-9 months. Harvey also served as Sunday School Superintendent for 35 years. He helped build 2 Sunday School buildings and the church. If asked he would do anything he could to help the church and its members. He was a leader and mentor to the young men in the church. Harvey took them camping, hunting and always sharing the word of God with them. He was a World War II Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae McVay Bass; 3 brothers, James, Gene and Grady Bass, sister, Ann Bass.
Survivors include, daughter, Rea Strickland (Billy) of Enterprise, AL, sons, Clyde Bass (Delores) of Crestview, FL, and John Bass of Mobile, AL, 5 grandchildren, Tracy Fountain (LaDel) of Baker, FL, Todd Strickland (Sharon) of Hoover, AL, Beth Strickland (Josh) of Austin, TX, John Bass Jr. (Emily) of Mobile, AL, Jessica Bass of Mobile, AL, daughter-in-law, Dianne Bass, 7 great grandchildren, Finn and Ryder Strickland, Emmy and Clover Fountain, John Fendley, Ellie and Shepard Bass, 2 sisters, Mary Kelly of Florala, AL, and Joy Paul of Baker, FL. Harvey is also survived by abundance of extended love ones including numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to, Mary Kelly, a loving sister (Care was always there), Tim Kyser, Charlie Williams and Joey Evans (He considered as his closet friends) and Jeannie and Mike Cheshire (For always taking him to church).
Funeral services for Harvey O. Bass Jr, will be 11AM Wednesday January 8, 2020 at the Florala First Assembly of God Church in Florala, with Reverend Tommy Kelley, Reverend Ray Bundy and Reverend Mike McVay officiating. Visitation will be at Evans Funeral Home Tuesday January 7, 2020 from 6-8PM. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery with military honors.
