Lee Bass, 81, a resident of the Tolley area since 1898, passed away Sunday at a Crosby Hospital. Funeral services are being held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Tolley City Hall with Rev. Paul E. Johnson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Irgens-Weber Post of the American Legion, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the McKinney Cemetery.
Lawrence Boyington, Carl Egeberg, Lester Iverson, Robert Weber, Norman Swenson, and Curtis Peterson will be pallbearers and honorary bearers Wm. Mau, Chan Boyington, Herman Rowland, C.C. Resch, Elvin Rasmussen, Ted Hansen, Frank Zeltinger Sr., and Ed Jensen.
Mr. Bass was born November 23, 1891, at Burtrum, Minn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Bass. He came to the Tolley area in 1898, and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1912. He entered the Army in September, 1917, and served in France. He married Carrie Bryant on May 23, 1942, at Tolley, and they farmed south of Tolley until 1953, when he semi-retired. The following year they moved into Tolley, however, he continued to assist on the farm until 1963. Mrs. Bass died in July, 1964, and in August, 1970, Mr. Bass entered the Good Samaritan home at Crosby.
Survivors include a brother, Fred Bass of Minot; four step-daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Hanlin of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Herbert (Alvertta) Pearson, Conrad, Mont., Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Lathom, Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Alvin (Arliene) O?Clair of Tolley; two step-sons, Virgil L. Bryant of Missoula and Fred R. Bryant serving with the Navy at San Diego; 21 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
