Mary Alice Bass, Retired Teacher, Dies Early Friday
Greenwood - Miss Mary Alice Bass, who taught for over 40 years in the local schools before her retirement, died at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital at 2:15 a.m. Friday, where she had been a patient for 14 weeks.
Funeral services for Miss Bass have been arranged for 3 p.m., Sunday, at the J.C. Wilson Funeral Home in Greenwood and burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the J.C. Wilson Home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and after 10 a.m. Sunday. They are invited to attend the rites.
Born at Greenwood
Miss Bass was born at Greenwood, the daughter of William H. and Lavinia Brewer Bass, and spent her entire life within one-half mile of her birthplace, the Bass Farm.
She taught in the Greenwood schools for 40 years before retirement several years ago. She had also taught for five years in Indianapolis and was well-known throughout the local area.
Survivors include two sisters, Jess and Margaretta Bass, both of Greenwood; a niece, Mrs. Gene Ball of Columbus; two nephews, Irvin Bass of Baltimore, Md., and Mark A. Sewsom, Yardley, Pa.; and nine grand-nieces and nephews.
