Elma Elizabeth Lee Bass
"If You Get There Before I Do, Don"t Give Up On Me" OGDEN - Our mother, Elma Elizabeth Lee Bass, passed away peacefully from this earth on Sep 29, 2003 at Manor Care Health Services in Ogden, Utah. She was 92 years of age when she was called back to her Heavenly Home.
She was born May 4, 1911, the only daughter of Edgar McCommas and Mary Elizabeth Smith Lee. She was raised in Ogden, Utah along with her four brothers. Here she went to school until she married at age 16.
As children, Dad would tell how he had seen her at a dance and decided he was going to marry her. Several months later on Dec 30, 1927 in Brigham City, our mother and our father, Harold Arthur Bass, began their life together. They celebrated 68 years of married life when Dad passed away on April 24, 1996.
Mother was a member of the Methodist Church.
After their marriage their first home was in Wyoming where they homesteaded and the first of their six children was born. During the great depression they returned to Ogden and bought a home and started on the adventure of raising a family of six children.
Mother was a homemaker who kept a clean home and prepared wonderful meals for her growing family. They enjoyed several years of going to their cabin in Manor lands until health reasons forced them to sell.
Through the years of Dad"s illness, mother was always there. This took a toll on her health and well-being. When he died a part of her died also. The last years of her life were spent at Country Pines Assisted Living in Clinton.
The last few weeks of her life were spent at Manor Care. We wish to thank all who helped with her care at this time and to those who attended her so patiently and caringly in the Arcadia room during her final days. We are so grateful for all you did to make her passing easier for all of us.
Mother was the last surviving member of her family and Dad"s family. Her four brothers preceding her in death were Claude, Comas, Clarence and Jimmy Lee.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters, Lewis Bass (Eleanor) of Taylorsville, Utah; David Bass (Joanne) of Washington D.C.; Carol Tormoehlen (Norris) of Seymour, Indiana; Kay East (Wesley) of West Warren; and Lynn Schmidt of Garnier, NC; 21 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, daughter Donna Anderson (Evan), son-in-law Bob Schmidt, and two of her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., with a son-in-law and former Bishop Wesley East presiding. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
